Over the last few days details have begun to surface about a $12 million dollar renovation which will take place at the Dolphin Resort. While it's sister resort, the Swan recently completed a large scale renovation of guest resort rooms, the Dolphin will soon get a slightly different treatment in the process of completing a grand scale $140 million dollar overall resort transformation. This lobby appears to be the final step of the grand redesign of the two resort hotels.

The renovation, while affecting the lobby alone at this point, is scheduled to begin in Spring 2017 and is set to be completed just a few short months later in the Fall of 2017. While this seems like a fairly quick turn around, these construction projects are being completed by the parent companies of the Swan and Dolphin resorts. These resorts are not run by the Disney company, but rather the Marriott organization.

The resorts have a unique connection with Disney by means of contractual obligations that have been present for many years. For example, the Swan and Dolphin participate in the My Disney Experience program, but are not included in the Disney dining plan. It is certainly a unique partnership and if you have questions about what is and is not included with a resort stay, feel free to ask us in the comments below. We have stayed at the resort multiple times and it is quite often one of the "best buys" on property when booking a vacation.

As for the renovation, we have a few additional details about what to expect. The new space will feature the following:
  • an enormous custom designed chandelier
  • increased seating for both guests and conference attendees at the resort
  • an entirely new quick service style dining concept serving snacks, coffees, and sandwiches throughout the day
  • a new bar which will feature over 150 seats for guests to lounge in the lobby area

While this does appear to be a fairly large project, the resorts are scheduled to remain open and the project is not supposed to affect the guest experience or cause guest delays.

Personally, I believe this is a needed renovation of a wonderful resort that we've grown to love over the years. It's a great resort and one of the oldest resorts on the Disney property. Thankfully, they have kept the resort up to date over the years and this update should continue its reign as one of the most budget friendly resorts on property. Especially for the level of service it provides to guests.

What do you think of the renovation concept? Have you stayed at this resort in the past? Let us know what you think! (Enjoy the article? SHARE it with friends! Your shares help us out quite a bit. Thanks!)
