As many of you may know, over the last few years, the Disney Parks have been in a constant state of construction and refurbishment. Unfortunately this season is no exception to that trend. While some of the largest construction updates aren’t as obvious as others, many different closings have occurred throughout three of the four theme parks and many of the resorts.

The greatest of the updates, Disney Springs, is nearing completion. While there are a few elements of the major shopping and entertainment complex that are not quite complete a majority of the area is now open to the public.

So, while taking that into consideration, here is what’s still under construction at Disney Springs:
  • Planet Hollywood remains under construction and while it was originally scheduled to open in the late summer, it has been pushed back to eventually re-open as Planet Hollywood Observatory in Fall 2016 (many are considering that it may be early winter)
  • Fulton’s Crab House is also still being redesigned to re-open in the fall as the Paddlefish. However, it appears as if the construction of that location is much farther along and possibly on schedule.
  • Another addition coming to Disney Springs that is being postponed (in regards to the construction process) is The Edison. The Edison was supposed to open in 2016, but unfortunately it’s debut is now scheduled for Spring 2017.

Moving on to the parks, the Magic Kingdom is beginning/continuing work on a few attractions:
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad- Continues refurbishment through November 18th
  • The Disney World Railroad- Refurbishment January 9th - February 16th
  • The Hall of Presidents- January 17th - June 29th: It will be interesting to see how this affects the new Muppets Show, Great Moments in American History that debuted last weekend above The Hall of Presidents.
  • Liberty Square Riverboat- January 3rd - 12th
  • Stitch’s Great Escape- As of October 2nd, the attraction is officially going to exclusively seasonal operation.

As we journey over to Hollywood Studios, with the expansions taking place in that park, quite a bit is changing:
  • Pizza Planet- the restaurant has officially closed, but will reopen as the newly developed PizzeRizzo sometime this fall.
  • Rock “n” Rollercoaster- October 27th - November 9th
  • As is the trend with Hollywood Studios recently, there are a few rumors suggesting that the Writer’s Shop will be closing in the near future.
  • Also, the Star Wars and Toy Story expansions are coming along slowly but no official dates have been announced for their opening.

In the Epcot theme park there are no announced refurbishments:
  • Many believe that a series of updates are going to be occurring throughout the park in the coming months.
  • Rumors of the Ellen’s Energy Adventure attraction closing and becoming a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction are spreading like wildfire, but no official statement has been made by Disney.
  • Figments Place is being redesigned to become a Disney Visa Character Spot

In Animal Kingdom:
  • The Dinosaur refurbishment is still going on, but will reopen October 16 along with the Dino Institute Shop

Over at the resorts, there is quite a bit going on throughout Disney’s multitude of properties:
  • The Yacht and Beach Club is undergoing a convention center expansion that is not scheduled to be completed until 2018.
  • Wilderness Lodge continues the expansion of the villas and Copper Creek Cabins. General updates to the property are also occurring.
  • Port Orleans: French Quarter - The Sassagoula Float Works and Food Factory dining location is currently undergoing a complete overhaul. Its completion is scheduled for late fall.
  • Other smaller scale resort refurbishments are currently occurring, but the updates listed above are the most drastic and most likely the ones you should be aware of when scheduling your Disney Vacation.

So, those are the current refurbishments and construction updates for Walt Disney World. Hopefully this will help you better plan your Walt Disney World vacation and experience the trip of a lifetime. Be sure to look out for updates to this list when updates are made available by the Disney company. Thanks for reading and be sure to share this list with friends that may be visiting the parks this fall!
